Luiz is a DPhil (PhD) candidate in Criminology, looking at the conditions of possibility for mass incarceration in Brazil in times of re-democratization and social inclusion. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Roehampton, having previously taught criminological themes, such as police killings, mass incarceration and the punitive turn, at the Curso Popular de Formação de Defensoras e Defensores Públicos. Luiz was also a Graduate Teaching Facilitator and a Research Assistant at the Oxford Centre for Criminology, and a Research Assistant at the University of Hull. He is a co-founder and co-convener of the Oxford Southernising Criminology Discussion Group, Law Faculty.
